Bob Mandeville Obituary, Death Cause – On May 6, 2023, in the city of Carefree, Arizona, Charles Robert Mandeville, also known as Bob, departed this life to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Bob Mandeville was brought into the world on November 6th, 1933 in Troy, New York, to parents Harold and Elizabeth Mandeville. He was always active in sports throughout his life, and he picked up his first golf club when he was 10 years old. After only two years, “Ace” Mandeville had lowered his handicap to 3, signaling that he was well on his path to achieving long-term success in the game of golf.
After graduating from Nottingham High School as the best player in the school’s history, he continued his athletic career at Syracuse University, graduating with the class of 1955 and became the team captain there. Bob earned a degree in finance from Syracuse University, and immediately after graduation, he accepted a position with Arthur Anderson. Bob served his two years of Occupation Duty in South Korea after being drafted into the United States Army. After his stint in the military, Bob worked for General Electric in addition to a number of other smaller businesses.
In 1969, Bob received an invitation from his former coworkers at GE to become the President of a newly established computer leasing firm called MLPI. Bob stayed with this company for the rest of his career, eventually rising through the ranks to become President and Chairman of the Board of NRG, Inc. He eventually parted ways with the business in 1988 after selling it to a company based in Chicago. Bob worked with the Arizona Golf Association for the following 22 years, and during that time he also served as the organization’s main volunteer for course rating.
Bob was able to complete all of the courses in the state of Arizona during this time span, and he finished his golfing career with 19 holes-in-one. Although Bob’s golfing career was filled with memorable moments, one of the most significant was when he was given the chance to compete in the 1956 United States Open, which was held at the Oak Hill Country Club in the Rochester, New York area. Bob is survived by his lovely wife Virginia, his two great bonus children Terri Ecker (Rick) and Donald Birch (Liz), his younger brother Richard Mandeville (Karen), and his three grandchildren, Lindsay Pearsol, Shannon Ecker, and Nathan Ecker. He is also survived by his two cherished dogs, Quinn and Peggy Sue.
