Canned Rock Obituary, Death Cause –I regret to inform you that my former bandmate from “Canned Rock,” Doug Kennard, has passed away. It is with a sad heart that I have to share this news with you. He gave up his fight against a neurological illness early on last Friday after a brief battle, and he left the hospital shortly thereafter. In the middle of the 1970s, Doug (keyboards, guitar, and vocals), Pete Buckby (drums, timp’s, tubular bells, and vocals), and I, Don Maxwell (Fender V1 bass, lead vocals), created the band that would become known as Canned Rock.

During the ten years that we spent touring the United Kingdom and Europe, we made five appearances on ITV competition shows, including “New Faces” twice and “Pub Entertainers of the Year” three times. Even though we were on the road for extended periods of time, Doug’s hilarious sense of humor ensured that there was never a dull moment. His grin was permanently fixed on his face, and he had an uncanny ability to put others at ease almost immediately. When the band decided to call it quits, he and his wife Anne moved to Durham, North Carolina, his wife’s birthplace.

There, he remained till the end of his life. He had worked with CR to make a great number of amazing songs, and when the band made that decision, he and Anne moved there. He will be much missed since he was a passionate and brilliant musician, a friend to many, and a family guy who treasured his children. Doug Kennard, may you finally find some peace.
