Charles Hoagland Obituary, Death Cause – The death of Charles Hoagland has occurred. A message on social media states, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of retired Assistant Chief Charles “Chuck” Hoagland, of the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department.” Chuck Hoagland served as an assistant chief at the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department. Huck was one of the original members of the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department and gave 43 years of service to the McQueeney community.
Chuck has been a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician in Guadalupe County for longer than any other person in the county’s history. If you or someone you know has ever been in a dangerous situation in our town, it is quite likely that Chuck was the first one there to help. He possessed a great deal of expertise, was highly determined, and, most importantly, he was exceedingly selfless. Chuck was someone we looked up to, and we held his ideas and feedback in the highest regard and trusted them completely.
Chuck is responsible for the education of a significant number of the EMTs who have volunteered in the past and who continue to volunteer for the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department. His audaciousness, leadership, and most of all his presence will be sorely missed. His sense of humor will also be sorely missed. During this trying time, we ask that you remember the Hoagland family in your prayers. They need your support more than ever. After serving in the Navy for eight years and retiring as a Lieutenant, Charles, or Chuck, as he was known to his family, friends, and the nearby volunteer fire departments, started his career as a fireman and emergency medical technician on December 10, 1980 with the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department.
