Earl Hess Sr Obituary, Death Cause – The demise of Earl Hess Sr., who had been a dedicated part of our community for many years, has left us inconsolably upset. We are keeping his family in the forefront of our thoughts and prayers as they go through this trying time. On the 30th of April, 2023, Earl Alvin Hess Sr., who was a resident of Wapwallopen, passed away at his residence. He was 88 years old.
On July 7, 1934, he was born in Wapwallopen. His parents, Aaron and Mae (Hess) Hess, both of whom had passed away by the time he was born, were his parents.
Earl attended Wapwallopen throughout his academic career. A considerable portion of his professional life was spent working for the company that was once known as Dana Corporation. Earl wed a woman whose surname at birth was Beverly Schaffer, and the two of them enjoyed a total of 63 happy years together as a married pair before she died away on January 15, 2018. He was a member of the Susquehanna Valley Beagle Club in addition to being a member of the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Hobbie congregation.
He truly enjoyed being outside and participating in outdoor pursuits such as fishing and hunting. Earl is survived by his one daughter, Donna Hess Jensen, and her fiance, Scott Bennett, both of Hobbie; four granddaughters; and six great-granddaughters. He is also remembered fondly by his extended family. In addition, he is survived by his two sons, Richard Hess and his wife, Beth Anne, of Berwick, and Earl Hess Jr. and his wife, Virginia, of Wapwallopen. Both of his sons are married. Their spouses also survive Richard Hess after his passing.
Earl has expressed his desire that no memorial services or celebrations be performed in his honor. The funeral and burial will be held at the Silver Maple Cemetery in Hobbie, Washington.
