Eileen McParland Obituary, Eileen McParland Has Sadly Passed Away
Eileen McParland Obituary, Death Cause – Sleep well. Eileen McParland, You’re brave. Belleek lost another loved one on April 15, 2023. We mourned Eileen McParland, Deer Park Newry Road Belleek. Eileen McParland was a lovely lady, pleasant and neighborly, and we at the Beal leice clg fraternity and local community express our heartfelt condolences to her husband Michael and daughter Margaret at this very sad time. Eileen McParland was born on Thursday, April 11, 1940, the third of six children to Daniel and Margaret [Garvey] McParland, Park Wall Belleek. Eileen attended Belleek’s St. Laurence O’Tooles Primary School under Mr. Patrick Murray and Mrs. McDermott. Michael McParland, her school sweetheart and future husband, met her at school. She left school at 14 to work as a child minder for local families, a Doffing mistress in a nearby factory, and in Bairnswear.
Eileen and Michael, who resided 1/4 mile away on the Belleek-Newry main road, married on Wednesday, August 4, 1965, in the Church of St. Laurence O’Tooles Belleek. Eileen was almost 25. Fr. McPeake and Fr. Cooney assisted Fr. Michael Crawley, who officiated his first wedding. Michael’s brother Gerard was bestman, and Eileen’s brother Seamus was groomsman. Bridie McParland was bridesmaid and Lily Crawley was matron. The Liverpool Hotel Warrenpoint hosted their wedding reception, and Killarney was their honeymoon destination. In 1965, Eileen and Michael relocated to No.2 Rockview Cottages in Belleek, where they lived for over nine years before returning to Deer Park in 1974.
After Margaret married Lissummon man Dermot Rafferty on December 10, 1979, Eileen and Michael were blessed with five grandchildren, Colleen, Majella, Clodagh, Michael, and Ciara. Eileen’s family, like other McParlands of Park Wall Belleek, was heavily interested in the local Gaelic football club. Eileen McParland was loved and respected locally and beyond. Eileen’s brothers Joseph and Seamus were playing members of the first Belleek team (1967-1971), Johnny [John] was also a committee member of that team and the current one [1983+], and her father Dan was one of our gatemen. You couldn’t get in unless you had the money, probably threepence [3p]. Belleek plays on McParland family land. Pairc na nGael, which Seamus McParland sold to the club in late 1990, opened in 2002.
