Gary Finch Obituary, Death Cause – The tragic passing of Gary Finch, who had a career in public service that spanned more than 40 years and represented the Auburn district, was recently reported in the press. Finch was a former member of the state assembly and had represented the Auburn region. He was 79. Finch was well-known for his engagement in both the local Republican Party and the Brew-Finch Funeral Homes, which he established and ran for a significant amount of time. He was an active member of the local Republican Party. In another phase of his political career, he served as the chair and was in charge of the Republican Committee of Cayuga County.
During this time, he was also the chairman of the committee. In addition to that, he was involved in a considerable number of community groups that were situated in the surrounding area, and he served on a variety of boards. In addition to his positions as president of the Auburn Rotary Club and United Way of Cayuga County, he also served as chairman of the board of trustees of Cayuga Community College during the time that he was employed there. His first election to a public position and his first success in an election for public office both occurred in 1979 when he was chosen to serve on the board of trustees for the village of Aurora.
This was his first victory in an election for public office. In 1982, he was victorious in the election for the position of Mayor of Aurora, and he continued to serve in that role for the subsequent eight years of the city’s existence. He ran as a candidate in the election that was held in 1999 as part of a special election to fill the empty seat in the 126th Assembly District. This election was called after the seat had been vacant for some time. In order for him to walk away victorious from the election, he had to win against both the Democratic candidate Katie Lacey and the Green Party nominee Ron Van Nostrand.
