Greg Dyer Obituary, New Zealand Cadet Forces Mourns Greg Dyer Death
Greg Dyer Obituary, Death – We sadly must again announce the passing of one of our serving Cadet Force Officers. Lieutenant Greg Dyer, NZCF, of Training Ship Waikato who passed away on Monday 5th June after a period of illness. Greg commissioned as an Officer into the New Zealand Cadet Forces in 2008 and joined with No. 7 (City of Hamilton) Squadron, rising through the ranks staffing and attending numerous NZCF courses and activities, including holding senior positions on Cadet150 and Ex Cadet 2020.
Greg noted he had joined cadets after one of his sons joined the unit, and it was an amazing privilege to be able to have that shared experience with him over many years. He took command of No. 7 SQN in mid 2013 and enjoyed several years in command, before moving to Training Ship Rangiriri in 2018. It was under Greg’s leadership that saw Training Ship Rangiriri re-named to Training Ship Waikato to better reflect the unit’s history, location and goals moving forward, and which saw the unit undergo a period of growth.
Greg enjoyed leading and developing his cadets, and participated in multiple inbound and outbound Cadet Exchange programs which he took immense satisfaction from. Those who knew him described him as a caring individual providing sound advice and solutions-oriented leadership with his trademark grin and sense of humour.
All the members of the NZCF wish to pass on our condolences to his family, and service details will be promulgated once the family have confirmed their wishes. LT Dyer rest in peace, fair winds and following seas and thank you for your many years of service.
