Kumanjayi Jones Obituary, Death Cause – PAW has learned with great regret of the demise of Mr. Kumanjayi Japangardi Jones, a long-time friend of the organization as well as a member of its Board of Directors. All of our love and prayers are with his family at this time. PAW could always count on Japangardi’s unwavering support. He had a passion for the stage and participated in a number of our shows. In 2011, he was a subject of an interview conducted by Dennis Charles for a PAW radio documentary titled “Drovers,” which was broadcast all throughout Australia by Radio National.

He was a frequent performer at our performances, many of which were broadcasted in some capacity. Japangardi acted in a number of short films, some of which detailed his recollections of ‘One Pound Jimmy’ from his youth. The most recent film that he made with us was about the origin of the name Yuendumu, namely the story of the donkeys and the watermelons. That movie is a hit with everyone. His bright smile, warm heart, and mischievous laugh will be greatly missed by all of us. The Incredible True Tale of Mr. Japangardi Jones:

Together with us, he directed a number of music videos, one of which was a song about a bullfrog. In addition to being an essential component of the Coniston Documentary, he was featured in the documentary “Every hill got a story,” which was the first exhaustive history of the Aboriginal people of Central Australia. The history was given in the Aboriginal people’s own words and a variety of languages.
