Larry Hollar Obituary, Death Cause – At the age of 86, Larry Array Hollar of Newton, North Carolina, passed away at Catawba Valley Medical Center on Saturday, April 30.
He was the son of the late Array Hollar and Christina Self Hollar, who welcomed him into the world on August 20, 1936 in Hickory. After receiving his diploma from Newton-Conover High School in 1954, he went on to study at the University of South. In addition to serving on the Newton City Recreation Commission and the board of directors for the Newton-Conover School System, Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. He had been a member of the Catawba Country Club for a very long time, and during his free time he enjoyed playing tennis and golf with his friends.

He was also known as Hots Hollar, Baby Beef, and Chief, and he had a passion for riding bicycles and motorcycles. He rode 1000 miles in 24 hours as part of the Iron Butt challenge, which he successfully completed. He enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, white water rafting, flying, fishing, hunting, camping, target shooting, archery, and reloading among other outdoor activities. In addition to being a member of the NCHS Red Devil Chain Gang, Larry took great pride in carrying the first down markers at home football games, and he was slated to earn the Red Blazer Award later this month. He was a loyal husband, father, and grandfather, and he treasured the time he spent with his family.
