Laura Tamayo Obituary, Helotes Pediatrics Co-founder Has Died

Laura Tamayo Obituary, Death Cause – Dr. Laura Rose Mann Tamayo, who was 53 years old when she passed away on March 28, 2023, did so at her home in Acworth, Georgia. The year 1970 finds Laura being brought into the world in Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by her daughter, Jordan Tamayo, who resides in Acworth, Georgia, as well as by her son, Ian Tamayo, and his wife, Alyssa, who all reside in San Antonio, Texas. Other people who are still alive include her ex-husband, Dr. Edwin Tamayo, who lives in Austin, Texas; her parents, Paul and Rosalyn Mann, who live in Woodstock, Georgia; her brother, William Mann and his wife, Erin Wehr Mann, who live in Marietta, Georgia; and a large number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

All of these people are still alive. In 1998, Laura received her diploma from Memorial High School, which was located in McAllen, Texas. She was a skilled player of the bassoon and had participated in the Texas All-State Orchestra on three separate occasions. In addition to that, Laura was selected for the illustrious McDonald’s All-America Band. After receiving a degree in chemical engineering with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992, she spent some time working in that industry before opting to pursue a career in medicine instead.

She attended the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Medicine in San Antonio, where she received her degree in 1999 after being accepted there. Following her residency, she and another physician, Dr. Wendy Gideon, established Helotes Pediatrics in the San Antonio area together. (Later on in 2018, Helotes Pediatrics will commemorate its twenty-year anniversary of providing medical care.) Unfortunately, Dr. Tamayo sustained a head injury in 2010 as a result of a fall that occurred in her home.

She continued to work full time for the following eight years, but the injuries eventually rendered her unable to do so, and she was forced to retire and give up the career that she had cherished for so long. In 2022, she and her child Jordan relocated to Georgia so that they could be nearer to their extended family. Laura cherished every moment of her life, including the time she spent raising her children, being a vocal political activist, and traveling to Japan on exchange with the Bexar County Medical Society.
