Louis Fournet Obituary, Death Cause – On May 7, 2023, just after midnight, Louis Joseph Fournet II, well known as “Sugar,” passed away in his home at the age of 87. He was known to his friends and family as “Sugar.” Louis was the third of six children to be born to the union of Fred and Lucille Fournet. He was born in St. Martinville on July 13, 1935. His parents were Lucille and Fred.After the end of the Korean War, Louis served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He retired after 20 years of service. Following his return to his hometown, he enrolled at Northeast University in Monroe and ultimately earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy there.
He was a history student with a particular interest in the history of the American Civil War. Dancing was another one of Louis’s favorite things to do in his spare time.Those he leaves behind to honor his memory are his wife, Connie Martin Fournet; his three children, Marilyn C. Fournet, Louis J. Fournet III, and Kathryn E. Marva and her husband Joe; one grandson, Andrew Storm; his five siblings, F. Gerard Fournet Jr. and his wife Gladys, Virginia Howard, Mary Lucille Guirard, Adrienne Morgan, and Antoinette Peters and her husband Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Following that, he relocated to Morgan City, where he found employment at Eckerd’s Pharmacy. In the late sixties, he bought a drugstore in Patterson, where he worked for the next 38 years, and he serviced the local population. each Rotary and the Boy Scouts of America were important organizations to Louis, and he was involved with each of them for more than 40 years. He was a previous King of the Franklin organization known as the Krewe of Agmaroil, of which he was a former member.
