During a search of the school grounds early on Wednesday morning, members of the security staff at Oak Forest High School found the gun, according to the Oak Forest police department, which stated that the investigation is ongoing.
Amerion R. Epps, who was attending Oak Forest High School’s summer school program at the time, was the person who was in possession of the pistol when he was arrested for allegedly bringing it onto the school’s property. The police noted in a press release that he did not make any threats towards the school or the students, but the weapon was seized by security officers when they were investigating another matter.
The school was placed into lockdown mode in order to eliminate any potential threats and ensure the safety of everyone currently inside the building. Epps was taken into custody without a struggle breaking out, and the law enforcement authorities placed the firearm in a secure location. Epps, who is from the 3300 block of Laurel Ln in Hazel Crest, Illinois, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon in addition to an enhancement for being within a school building when the alleged offense was done. The alleged crime was the use of a firearm against a school employee. The hearing about his bond will take place on July 7 in the Bridgeview Court House, according to the court’s schedule.
