Olivia Brown Obituary, Five Killed in Indiana Shootings
- by James Lucas
Olivia Brown Obituary, Death Cause – The names of the five persons who were killed as a result of a string of shootings that occurred over the weekend in Indianapolis have been made public by the office of the coroner. A man and a woman were discovered dead in a neighborhood close to E. 21st and Ruckle streets shortly after midnight on Saturday. The police were called to the area. Olivia Brown, who was 24 years old, and Darian Wiley, who was 27 years old, have been named as the victims in this incident. A little more than two hours later, police were called to the Autumn Trails apartments located on Red Mill Drive, where they discovered two other persons who had been shot. Jhavon Fisher, who was only 17, and Nicholas Powell, who was only 18, both lost their lives as a result of the double homicide.
“I’m sad,” Rev. Malachi Walker stated. “It’s getting to the point where it’s revolting.” A week ago, on the day before Fisher passed away, Reverend Walker joined forces with the Indianapolis police department and Mayor Joe Hogsett to spread awareness about the annual Young Men Inc. youth summer camp. The importance of making responsible decisions will be emphasized at camp this summer. Walker stated that the topic is relevant due to the fact that Fisher’s death marks the 12th case of a youngster becoming the victim of a homicide in the city so far in 2018.
The number of young people who have been murdered has been steadily climbing over the past few years, reaching a high point of 19 deaths for the entire year in 2022. “Let’s make good decisions and choices,” Walker urged the group. “When you say no, mean no. Because making poor decisions might have serious consequences, you shouldn’t give anyone the power to coerce you into acting in a way that you are aware is unethical. Let’s go for the life route.”
In addition to the two instances of double homicide, the body of David Kenner, age 20, was discovered shot inside a vehicle in the Fountain Square neighborhood of Virginia and Woodlawn avenues just before the end of the day on Saturday, according to the police. The investigation has led the police to suspect that the incident occurred at a different location close to the intersection of E. Raymond and Shelby streets. There has been no one taken into custody in connection with any of the five deaths.
