Pete Ogley Obituary, Death Cause – Pete Ogley has died. I must break the news to you with a heavy heart that Pete Ogley, a legendary member of our club, has passed away. Over the course of more than seven decades, Pete has been involved with the club in various capacities, including those of player, committee member, and supporter. We will mournfully miss Pete, and our sympathies go out to the members of his family.

R.I.P. Mike’s academic career did not turn out very well for him. His least favorite classes were music and woodwork, which is amusing considering that he went on to make a livelihood as a singer and in the construction industry. When Norma’s lover, who would eventually become her first husband, introduced them to jazz and to Alan Lomax’s blues records, it launched the three siblings on a path that lead them to traditional British folk music. Music was an integral component of family gatherings.

But before that, there was skiffle, which was heavily influenced by American folk music, particularly Pete Seeger and the Weavers. As a singing pair known as the Mariners, Mike and Lal performed together. After that, they were known as the Folksons together with Norma, their cousin John Harrison, and a buddy named Pete Ogley. Following Ogley’s departure, the group renamed themselves the Waterson Family, and then simply the Watersons. They also abandoned their previous American repertoire in favor of British and, increasingly, Yorkshire songs, which they performed a cappella for the most part.b
