Racheal Neldon Obituary, Death Cause – A head-on incident that occurred late on Saturday night on Highway 79 in Lincoln County claimed the lives of four young people: three adolescents and a young woman. A report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that the collision took place on Highway 79 just south of Route C, in the general vicinity of the town of Old Monroe, at approximately 11:45 p.m.
On the two-lane highway, four young people were riding in a Chevrolet Impala from 2016 that was headed in the southern direction. The driver, who was only 16 years old, maneuvered her vehicle into the northbound lane in an attempt to get around a car that was in front of her. Both vehicles were involved in a collision after the Impala drove into the path of a 2022 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling in the opposite direction.
“Every fatal crash is all was sad, but there is something a little more to it involving such young people,” said Cpl. Logan Bolton of the Missouri Highway Patrol. “All fatal crashes are all was sad.” Racheal Neldon, a resident of Elsberry, was the person behind the wheel of the Hyundai Elantra when it crashed. She was pronounced dead at the site. Neldon was 23 years old. The crash was fatal for the driver of the Impala as well as for two passengers, a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old.
A fourth passenger, a young man from Wright City who was 18 years old and suffered significant injuries, was taken to a hospital in St. Louis. According to the investigation of the collision, Neldon was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, whereas the two people who were killed in the Impala were not wearing seat belts. The state troopers did not mention whether or not either the driver or the 18-year-old passenger was wearing a seat belt in their report.
