Ruth Thigpen Obituary, Death Cause – Greenwood Memorial Park in Pineville will serve as the location for the burial. The family asks that any and all visits take place at Hixson Brothers, which is located in Pineville. On Sunday, August 10, 2014, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., and continuing on Monday, August 11, 2014, from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.On Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the age of 94, Ruth, who resided in Pineville, North Carolina, departed this life at her home.Bertha Rollins and N.B. Greer were Ruth Jewel Greer Thigpen’s parents when she was born in Oakdale.
She attended Trout/Goodpine High School and grew up in the little towns that are scattered around the Central Louisiana region. After earning her degree in business administration from Alexandria Business College, she first found employment in the credit department of Montgomery Ward, and then moved on to become an assistant auditor at Hotel Bentley. She wed Stacy C. Thigpen, and eventually the couple and their family made their home in Bogalusa, where he worked as the director of the vocational school. After Stacy’s passing, Ruth Jewel and her children relocated to Pineville, where she began a nearly three-decade-long career as a librarian at the Louisiana College Library.
Her husband, Stacy, as well as her parents, N.B. and Bertha Greer, her sister, Ruby Lee Greer, and her grandson, Bryce Thigpen, had all passed away before her. She is survived by her three children, Barry W. Thigpen and his wife Linda of Henderson, Nevada, Bruce Greer Thigpen of Savannah, Georgia, and Nancy Jo Thigpen of Pineville; her grandsons Davin Greer Thigpen of Rye, New York, and Luke B. Thigpen of McKinney, Texas; and her great-grandchildren Reid, Charlie, Annie, and Hudson. Lynn Cavanaugh, Rodger Talley, Jan Tullos, Lester Mallette, Jim Williamson, Chico Maldonado, and Mike Peevy will have the privilege of serving as pallbearers at the funeral service.
