Sarah Campbell Obituary, Death Cause – We regret to inform you that Sarah Campbell (Sadie), age 83, passed away on May 3, 2023, in Coathill Hospital. Sarah McGuinness was born on April 20, 1940, to parents Susan and Frank. She was their sixth child. Sarah spent the majority of her formative years on Beechwood Drive in Greenend before moving to Netherhouse Avenue in Kirkshaws with her family. Sarah and her four sisters all worked in tailoring factories when they were younger, and Sarah spent 13 years working in the same department at Asda in Coatbridge. She first met her future husband, William Campbell, in 1960, and the two were married on September 26, 1964. Sarah’s mother, Susan, passed away suddenly at the age of 54, leaving her family distraught just two weeks later.
Sarah and Willie had a rocky start to their marriage, but by 1966 they had acquired a house and had their first child, Frank. After relocating to Clunce Place in Shawhead, they welcomed William in 1969 and Karen the following year. The family finally decided to move from Clunce Place to Balvenie Street Shawhead after many happy years there. Sarah’s husband Willie passed away in February of 2001, and since then, nothing has been the same. Her three grown children and granddaughter Jacqueline were the recipients of her undying love and devotion over the years. When little Eva was born in 2010, Sarah was 70 years old and a grandmother again. Sarah, a child at heart, doted on Eva, who also received a great deal of affection from her uncles Frank and Wullie.
The sudden loss of Sarah’s son Wullie was another unexpected blow. After suffering the loss of a child, she changed forever. She helped raise Eva from the time she was an infant for the next nine years. Sarah has always been an introvert and a private person. But beyond that serious exterior came a wickedly funny and witty personality that had everyone in stitches. She kept her humor to herself until her last three years, when she practically had everyone in stitches with her one-liners and brutally honest assessments of how they looked. Everyone admired her because of her charming personality and the twinkle of kindness in her eyes.
