Spencer Geerlings Obituary, Death Cause – Unfortunately, Spencer Geerlings has left us behind. We extend our sincerest condolence. The crash of a Phoenix Air plane off the coast of California claimed the lives of three men from Georgia. Eric Tatman, a resident of Marietta, Spencer Geerlings, a resident of Newnan, and Shane Garner, a resident of Taylorsville, were all employees of Phoenix Air Group, an aviation contractor based in Cartersville. The United States Coast Guard carried out a search of the water in the area where the airplane went down and located wreckage from the incident.
Levi Read, a spokesperson for the United States Coast Guard, stated on Thursday morning that the organization had been searching “all day and all night” utilizing helicopters and boats. The search continued until the Coast Guard announced on Thursday that there were no survivors to be found. In addition to the Coast Guard, the Air Force, Navy, and United States Customs and Border Protection were all participating in the search.
After taking off from Point Mugu, a Navy installation located on the mainland, the plane went down approximately one nautical mile off the coast of San Clemente Island. The other Phoenix Air Learjet that was taking part in the Navy training exercise made a safe landing, therefore the incident only involved one of the two aircraft. According to Phoenix Air, both aircraft were operating in a military restricted area when the incident occurred.
