Sue Maroroa Obituary, Former Sheffield RUFC Player Has Died

Sue Maroroa Obituary, Death Cause – As soon as we found out that Sue Maroroa Jones, a former player for the Sheffield RUFC, had passed away, our hearts were overcome with unfathomable sadness. Sue joined the senior women’s section of the club in 2015 and went on to play for Sheffield for a combined total of five seasons before making the decision to hang up her rugby cleats in order to have her first child, Samaria, in June of 2020. Samaria is due in June of 2020.

She always had a smile on her face (along with a tin full of her scrumptious baked goods) and was very kind to others. Sue was able to cultivate deep and enduring connections with the other members of her team, and they will all miss having her around in the future. Throughout this tremendously challenging time, we are keeping Sue’s husband Gawain and their children Samaria and Daniel in our thoughts and prayers. This is a difficult time for the entire family. Anyone who has been affected by the tragic news and feels the need to talk about it should not feel hesitant to get in touch with the club chaplain, Simon Ennis. Please do not hesitate to do so.

Sue exhibited the typical New Zealander love for the sport of rugby, which one would expect from a person from that country. She was a stalwart member of the back row who took great pleasure in creating a nuisance for herself at the breakdown. In her roles as Development Officer and Captain of the Roses, Sue was very welcoming and friendly to everyone who was new to the organization. As a direct consequence of this, the women’s section was given the opportunity to grow as a direct result of Sue’s efforts.
